David Row (The Video We Would Have Seen In Class)

In this interview, David Row talks a lot about how his paintings are about using a line to get from one point to another. Listen to his take on how line works and what it can do. That's not what the entire video is about, but what he does say about line is very relevant to what we're doing in this class. The difference is that he is applying these ideas to abstract art rather than drawing from observation.

  1. I couldnt do what this guy is doing. Hes excited by the fact that he doesn't always know where a painting will go? Really? I'm pretty sure that happens in alot of areas of art. Abstract just doesn't do much for me...

  2. Haha! Dude my 2nd post didnt show up...but I was saying I do think the organic quality of the shapes in his works adds some interest-they lend it this sort of motion-thats the only thing that kept my attention. This is the stuff you would see in someones living room. Well, someone other than me anyways...To each their own I guess! I like his point about using line to reach each point on the plane. Its something I've been using for sometime, but only in the past 2 years have been more aware of it, manipulated it, to my advantage consciously. cool video, just not something I'm very interested in within the artworld.

  3. Certainly, we all have our oppinions and tastes. But, regardless, I think that what Row has to say about line is VERY prevalent to what we're doing in this class, even if his particular usage of line doesn't quite relate.
